Information about the donor MR2 Toyota..
2007 MR2 Toyota ZZW30
Rebuilt new parts all-aluminium 1ZZ-FED, 1794 cc straight-4. Dual overhead camshafts 16 valves.
The
Toyota MR2 is a two-seat, mid engined, rear wheel drive sports car
produced by Toyota from 1984 until July 2007 when production stopped
in Japan, in three different design series. The latest version was
called the Toyota MR-S in Japan, the Toyota MR2 Spyder in the United
States, and the Toyota MR2 Roadster in Europe. The
new MR2, designated SW20 (in America the chassis codes were SW22 for
the turbocharged model and SW21 for the naturally-aspirated model),
was longer, wider and heavier than its predecessor and had smoother
bodylines. While the AW11 was a pure sports car, made in the spirit
of Lotus, the SW20, being quite larger, could be classed as a
GT-car.
Sr
offers all types of body kits available to make the SW20 imitate the
Ferrari F355, Ferrari 346, Enzo Ferrari, Reventon, and other LAMBO
Models with, indistinguishable results. When the SW20 went on sale
in spring 1990, it was offered with four different engine choices
depending on the market area. All engines were 1998 cc 14 engines
with DOHC and 16 valves, excluding the naturally-aspirated US model
which used the 2164 cc5S-FE engine. The most powerful engine was the
turbo charged 3S-GTE, which was available in Japan at 220 hp (164
kW) (as the MR2 GT) and the USA at 200 hp (149 kW) (as the MR2
Turbo). Europeans had to settle for the naturally-aspirated 156 hp
(116 kW) 3S-GE engine. The Japanese MR2 GT model was able to
accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.6 s. Keeping with the unique styling
cues of the MK-I, the MK-II was offered with several choices of roof
type for U.S. sale. Standard in the lineup was a hardtop coupe.
Optionally the car could be ordered with either a T-top roof
(commonly referred to as the T-bar option) or a moon roof option.
The SW20's entry to the market was not quite as smooth as the
AW11's. Toyota's goal was to make the car's suspension geometry work
the same way that true super cars do.
Information about the Tube chassis
One of the unique features of Sr chassis’s is each chassis is built with a custom design so we can clone the original car. Here are some differences between the Sr steel tube chassis and a Sr donor car chassis; A steel tube chassis is more versatile and this gives Sr the ability to create a custom design closer to the original. Another benefit is the steel tube chassis has more space within the chassis to install larger car accessories. For example the Sr chassis structure consists of over 600 individual pieces. The chassis is constructed of steel tube coupled with precision cut panels and reinforcing members to mimic the design of the original LAMBO chassis. The chassis is dimensionally correct as a clone to the original. The cabin area offers approximately 4" more legroom than Sr’s chassis tub in the donor car Pontiac Fiero. The suspension is based on the LAMBO design. The rear wheels have dual coil over suspension while the front uses a single coil over. Another advantage for Sr is we can install a larger gas tank. Instead of using the typical 11 gallon Fiero tank we now have the capacity to install an aluminium gas tank of 25 gallons. Sr steel tube chassis design gives us many options available for choosing the size of the motor.
